December 1, 2025, SEATTLE - Expedia Group appoints its first Chief Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Officer Xavier Amatriain. Xavier will lead the AI and Data organization, overseeing the long-term vision for AI and machine learning (ML) and setting the technical direction for how advanced ML, generative AI, and data science can create business value at scale.

With more than 20 years of experience building and scaling advanced AI systems at some of the world’s most innovative technology companies, Xavier joins Expedia Group from Google, where he most recently served as VP of AI and Compute Enablement. In this role, he led the teams building the core AI platforms and infrastructure that power all of Google’s products including Gemini, Cloud, Search and Ads. Prior to Google, Xavier held senior positions at LinkedIn, and Netflix, and has mentored talent who went on to found leading AI companies including Perplexity and Scale AI.
Xavier reports directly into Ramana Thumu, Chief Technology Officer of Expedia Group and is based in San Jose, California.
